CARDIO TRAINING FUNDAMENTALS
Cardio is an integral component of overall fitness. A solid cardio program is one of the cornerstones of living a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, as I have discovered with the lifting side of fitness, a lack of knowledge is the main factor holding people back.
First of all, I will clarify the Slug Nation definition of cardio. Cardio training often has the problem of being associated solely with running. Running is definitely cardio, however not all cardio is running. Cardio can be any activity that you enjoy doing, because not everyone enjoys running. Swimming, rowing, biking, jumping rope, etc. are all forms of cardio and can all contribute to your health and fitness oriented goals.
Every activity in the world has some sort of fundamentals that are essential to increasing performance and seeing results. Cardio training is no different. A common trend I have seen is that most people are familiar with one or two of the essential principles of cardio training, however without the other principles they cannot tailor their training correctly. In my opinion and experience there are Five Essential Principles to any cardio program, regardless of the training activity chosen. Follow the links to the side for a general overview of all five principles and a more in depth look at each.
Trample the Weak. Hurdle the Dead. Love you all.
